The following are beta downloads. They have been tested on a number of real J2ME devices, but not all that are currently available. If you find a problem with one or more of the applications, we'd love to hear about it. Please e-mail us if you find anything.

Sun's Emulator for Windows

This is a smaller version of the 'Frogger' video arcade game. Smaller, because it only contains the road part of the original (it really never made sense why a frog can't jump in the water). After each crossing of the road, more cars appear or they get faster.

The frog controls are:
LEFT or 4Jump left.
RIGHT or 6Jump right.
UP or 2Jump up.
DOWN or 8Jump down.

Tron Cycle is one quarter of the popular 'Tron' game, the cycles. The object of the game is to surround the computer's yellow cycles with a trail of light emitted from the back of your blue cycle. If your cycle runs into the side walls, or light from any of the other cycles, you die. After each successful completion, either more computer cycles are added or they get faster.
The game speed can be changed during the "Game Over" display. The speeds are 1 very fast to 9 very slow.

The cycle controls are:
LEFT or 4Turn to the left.
RIGHT or 6Turn to the right.
UP or 2Turn up.
DOWN or 8Turn down.
FIRE or 1,3,5,7,9,0Speed up.

The classic Mine Sweeper game found on most operating systems is now available on your MIDP device. The goal is still the same: mark all the bombs without stepping on one.

The cycle controls are:
LEFTMove cursor to the left.
RIGHTMove cursor to the right.
UPMove cursor up.
DOWNMove cursor down.
FIRETake your chance.
0Mark a bomb.

For all you amateur astronomers - we give you a calculator to compute some of the necessary information when purchasing an eyepiece or telescope:

  • The scope's aperture in mm
  • The scope's focal length in mm
  • The scope's max power
  • The scope's min power
  • The scope's resolving power
  • The scope's exit pupil for an eyepiece
  • The scope's power for an eyepiece
  • The scope's actual field of view for an eyepiece

You can compare the actual FOV of your selection to an image of Andromeda (the image pans).

This is variation of the '1942' video arcade game. The difference is that the enemy planes don't shoot back, instead they try to collide with you. Be very careful, because even a hit enemy plane can destroy you. As the game progresses, more enemy planes attack your plane, and they get faster.

The plane controls are:
LEFTMove left.
RIGHTMove right.
UPMove up.
DOWNMove down.
FIREShoot the bullets.

Space Attack is a simpler version of the 'Space Zap' game from the late 70's. The goal is to protect your base from the bombs coming towards your base. As the game progresses the attack gets faster.

The base controls are:
LEFTShoot left.
RIGHTShoot right.
UPShoot up.
DOWNShoot down.

Destroy all the asteroids before they destroy you. As you hit an asteroid it divides into two smaller pieces, until it disappears. When you destroy all the asteroids, more appear and are sometimes faster.

The ship controls are:
LEFTRotates to the left.
RIGHTRotates to the right.
UPThrust, as the key is pressed the ship accelerates.
DOWNHyperspace (this makes you appear in a different location on the screen, but be careful, sometimes it destroys the ship).
FIREFire bullets, you have only five bullets at a time, so use them sparingly.

The object of this game is to guess (you have eight guesses) which four pegs the computer chose (the computer may repeat the same coloured pegs). If you guess the correct coloured peg in the correct position, the computer will issue a black peg. If you guess the correct coloured peg but in the incorrect position, the computer will issue a white peg.

Use the left and right keys to move between locations, and keys 1-4 to choose a colour.

Missile Attack is very similar to the 'Missile Command' video arcade game. The goal is to protect your bases from an attack. Each base can shoot at the enemy missiles, but be careful each base contains only 9 missiles. To destroy the enemy missile you must hit it in front. When a base is destroyed, it's missiles are not replenished for the next attack. Each phase of the attack either contains more enemy missiles or the missiles are faster, or both.

The target controls are:
LEFTMove left.
RIGHTMove right.
UPMove up.
DOWNMove down.
FIREShoot, the game decides what is the better base to shoot from.

Rescue is a 'Lunar Rescue' clone. The goal is to rescue all four of the deserted people by landing on the platform, but watch out for the alien ships. After each successful rescue, more alien ships are deployed.

The ship controls are:
LEFTMove left.
RIGHTMove right.
UPMove up.
DOWNMove down.
FIRESlow down on descent.
FIRESpeed up and Fire on ascent.

The object of this game is remove as many pegs as you possibly can by jumping over another peg into an empty slot. The first move is to remove the peg of your choice, then start jumping. It looks very simple, but takes a little bit of thinking. See if you can leave only one peg on the board.

Sun's MIDP emulator allows you to run midlets (MIDP applications) on your Windows desktop.
Extract the jad and jad file in the same directory as the emulator and run the included batch file (run.bat) with the name of the application as a parameter (Froggy, TronCycle, ...).
